The Laval native is concluding is first full season on the ATP Tour with the best ranking of his career so far (204th), and some impressive matches to build on for 2023.

Galarneau made a statement in August, when he played his first main draw of the National Bank Open,  in Montreal, on Central Court.

The professional athlete retains a lot of positive from this season, having played the final of the Winnipeg National Bank Challenger as well. However, he said his match against Grigor Dimitrov, in Montreal, was extra special.

Playing the Davis Cup is unique. Unlike regular ATP Tour tournaments, players represent their country, and face other flags in a competition that sees one country raise the cup at the end. High-ranked players like Félix Auger-Aliassime and Denis Shapovalov are therefore playing with Galarneau, in the same team.

That makes it ever more special, since Auger-Aliassime and Galarneau are long-time friends. Laval’s prodigy said it’s great to be able to share some time on the court with his friend, since normally, during the season, it’s more about texting and calling each other.

The Honorable Sean Fraser, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, presented Canada’s Immigration Levels Plan 2023–2025, which outlines immigration as a strategy aimed at helping companies find workers, and to attract qualified people in key sectors.

Last year, Canada welcomed more than 405,000 newcomers – the most ever in a single year. The Government continues that ambition, by setting itself 465,000 permanent residents in 2023, 485,000 in 2024, and 500,000 in 2025. The plan places greater emphasis on the settlement of newcomers in different regions of the country, including small towns and rural communities.

“Last year, we welcomed the largest number of newcomers in a single year in our history,” said Fraser. “This year’s plan will help businesses find the workers they need, set Canada on a path that supports our long-term success, and enable us to deliver on our key commitments to vulnerable people fleeing violence, war and persecution.”

That plan builds on ongoing work to strengthen the immigration system, and bring the benefits of immigration to communities across the country. That includes supporting the vitality of Francophone communities outside of Quebec. (J.L-B\IJL)

Laval had previously lost 5-0 at the stadium of parc Paul-Marcel-Maheu, in the first game of that best-of-three series.

The Pirates were entering a new cycle after three consecutive seasons with a positive record. This season, they had a rather difficult year on the field. The team went 14-28, good for fourth and second-to-last in the West Division.

Things haven’t improved in the last part of the regular schedule. Laval’s team finished the season losing eight of its last 10 games, including the last five.

Individually

Offensively, Gabriel Laroche led the Pirates in batting average (.508) and home runs (four). Frédéric Achard-Groleau is the one who had the most hits (38) and RBIs (26).

No pitcher on the team concluded the 2022 season with more than three wins.
