The major operation, related to urban firearm violence in recent months, is being deployed in collaboration with the police forces of Montreal, Deux-Montagnes, Saint-Jérôme and Longueuil.

About 150 police officers are working on that case, carrying out the various interventions, some of which are taking place in Montreal, Saint-Jérôme and Deux-Montagnes.

That’s the result of an investigation, initiated in August as part of the Centaur project, in which the Sûreté du Québec (SQ) and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police are also taking part.

At the SPL, it’s the Organized Crime Division that’s involved in the operation, which has already been helpful, since narcotics and firearms would have already been confiscated.

On the spot, officers from the Service the police de Laval (SPL) found a man lying on the ground, he who was shot.

His death was pronounced at the scene. His age and identity are still unknown, as a security perimeter has been erected pending the investigation of crimes against the person and forensic identification specialists from the SPL.

It’s the fifth murder to occur in Laval in 2022. An attempted murder also occurred on Wednesday, July 20, near Sainte-Dorothée.

On Wednesday, July 27, investigators from the escouade du Crime organisé du SPL, helped by the Groupe d’intervention du Service de police de la Ville de Montréal, first carried out a search of a residence in Laval.

First Intervention

This joint operation led to the arrest, on site, of Algo Bryan Fotso Youmby, aged 18, as well as the seizure of a firearm and narcotics.

The suspect is known to the police as an individual revolving around criminal groups, in particular members of street gangs present in Laval’s region.

The search led to the seizure of a P80 polymer pistol, a Glock charger containing 13 9mm ammunition, 42 9mm ammunition, two iPhone cell phones, a laptop, a man purse and 2.20 grams of crack separated into 19 sachets.

Algo Bryan Fotso Youmby faces charges of possession of a firearm and possession of crack.

Second Operation

A few days later, on Sunday, July 31, during a Highway Safety Code stop, SPL officers stopped a vehicle occupying two people.

After some inspections, the officers arrested the driver, a 45-year-old man, for possession of a weapon, possession of narcotics, breach of prescription and possession of false documents.

The second person in the vehicle, a 29-year-old woman, was also arrested for possession of a weapon, possession of narcotics and breach of conditions.

A revolver, 8 ammunition and narcotics, including 23 amphetamine tablets, have also been found. The two people will remain detained until their next appearance for the rest of their case, LVL-20220731-035.

The SPL recall that these operations are part of Laval’s strategy against the phenomenon of urban violence, linked to firearms.
