The victim was crossing the boulevard to get to that terminus of the same name before being hit by a vehicle travelling east. At that time, she was transported to a hospital within minutes of the incident, and the SPL said they “feared for her life”.

The driver, in her 40s, was treated for a nervous shock.

That incident occurred less than two hours, after another collision between a vehicle and a pedestrian happened in Auteuil. The victim was travelling from east to west, at 7656 des Laurentides Boulevard, which is located between Riopelle and Rémillard streets.

“Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) maneuvers were attempted when help arrived, but the death of the victim was confirmed on the spot,” confirmed the Service de police de Laval (SPL) spokesperson, Stéphanie Beshara, following the incident. “The victim was a 61-year-old man.”

“We need more than a mega-hospital in Laval’s centre,” said Saint-Bruno’s councillor David De Cotis. “The population of western Laval must leave the city to obtain health services.”

In a press release published on Sept. 27, De Cotis maintained that Laval ranks 15th among the 17 administrative regions in terms of beds per inhabitant.

“All of northern Montreal would win [with] that second hospital,” he mentioned in the press release, pointing out that residents of the Laurentides and Lanaudière are already attending the Cité-de-la-Santé establishment, in Vimont.

As for the fair centre, the equipment would benefit “the whole of the greater metropolitan area”, which doesn’t have modern infrastructures that meet the requirements of this industry, explains Action Laval.

No less than 10 other issues were addressed to the candidates in the running, including one related to public safety and the fight against urban violence.

“We want to have services that take care of our young people before the street gangs do so,” said the leader of the party and municipal councillor in Val-des-Arbres, Achille Cifelli. “We need sports and cultural infrastructures that will allow young people to be taken care of.”

After having met over the last few days with Coalition avenir Québec (CAQ), Liberal Pary, Parti québécois (PQ) and Conservative Party candidates, the elected representatives of Action Laval will discuss those issues with the solidarity candidates tomorrow, three days before the provincial election.

“The pre-hospital sector is a chain with many links, and they’re all important,” added in the press release the president of the CSN, Caroline Senneville. “Support staff is the perfect example. After each shift, they must prepare each ambulance for the next team of paramedics. If there’s a delay there, it affects the entire chain, and it ends up having an impact on the response time of paramedics with a citizen who needs help, and on the quality of services to the population. That’s why it’s so important to adequately recognize their work.

The donation will also help the Cité-de-la-Santé to get three laryngoscopes with cameras and blades of different sizes for neonatal and pediatric patients, as those facilitate rapid intubation for small patients. Other equipment is also part of the purchases the hospital will be able to afford with the donation.

Opération Enfant Soleil has donated $825,172 to the Hôpital de la Cité-de-la-Santé over the years.

“The equipment provided by Opération Enfant Soleil helps us a lot, and gives us a choice of material that is more sofisticated,” said pediatric nurse from the place, Pascale Simard, via press release. “It allows us to keep our babies here, in our regional centre, instead of transferring them to centres in Montreal, Quebec or other cities.”

In total, 116 donations will be made to organizations and hospitals across the province this year.

They’ll help to realize various project related to the prevention of disease in young people through physical activity and healthy lifestyles, to offer the best medical care to children, to support medical teams and to support families when they need it most. (N.P.)
