One-Month-Old Baby Found in Rivière des Mille-Îles

The research assembled by Laval firefighters, divers and members of the Sûreté du Québec (SQ) helicopter team finally bore fruit this morning, ended up resulting in good things, as this morning, when the body, which disappeared in the river, was finally discovered in the Mille-Îles River.

It was 10:21 a.m. when the baby was spotted not far from the place where his mother and four-year-old sister had themselves been extricated from the vehicle that had run aground in the water, near des Érables Street and Saint-Antoine Road, in Laval-sur-le-Lac.

It took place on Friday, October 28, shortly before 5 p.m.

Since discovering that the baby’s body was missing, the emergency services were carrying out intensive searches in the area, both on the water and on the banks.

The SQ divers finally found the baby in the water, before handing it over to firefighters from Laval’s Fire and Safety Department, to watch over the body while waiting to hand it over to paramedics, and then to a coroner in charge of the autopsy.

The Facts

Last Friday, October 28, people contacted 911 after seeing a SUV partially submerged in the Mille-Îles River.

A mother in her 30s and her two children, a four-year-old children and a one-month-old baby, were in the vehicle that was drowned in the water.

As soon as they were taken out alive of the vehicle, the mother and her girl were entrusted to Urgences-santé paramedics to be transported to a hospital.

The mother’s still hospitalized. Her condition is still considered critical, and can’t be met by the Service de police de Laval (SPL) investigators of crimes against the person of the SPL, who do not rule out a voluntary act on her part.

Infanticides in Sainte-Dorothée: The Father Accused of First Degree Murder

This afternoon, the Directeur des poursuites criminelles et pénales (DPCP) filed charges of first degree murder and assault against Kamaljit Arora, the day following a family tragedy that broke out on Lauzon Street, in Sainte-Dorothée.

While we initially feared for health, the 46-year-old man and father of the two children who died yesterday, was to appear for the first time in the Court of Quebec today.

For what’s about the accusation of assault, it would have been inflicted on the mother of the children, a 45-year-old woman, who was subsequently transported for a severe nervous shock.

The Facts

Let’s recall that officers from the Service de police de Laval (SPL) have been called to the scene of a possible family tragedy yesterday, before sadly discovering two lifeless children, and proceeding to the arrest of a man also present on the spot.

A call made to 911, shortly before 6 p.m., directed the officers to the scene of that family tragedy, which looks like infanticide, on Lauzon Street.

The children were then transported to a hospital centre, where they were declared dead.

The children, an 11-year-old boy and a 13-year-old girl, reportedly died of injuries sustained.

According to some media and details still not yet confirmed by the SPL, the father would have taken the lives of his two children, by drowning.

The police indeed arrested a 46-year-old man following the crime. He was also reportedly transported to a hospital. Once his state of health allowed it, the man met with the investigators.

Man Shot Dead in the Middle of the Street in Laval-des-Rapides

The police received several calls about gunshots heard on Wednesday evening, on Boulevard Clermont, before the authorities discovered an inanimate man on the pavement.

It was approximately 21:30 p.m. when that new case of armed violence broke out near the 1ère Rue, in that sector of Laval-des-Rapides, located a little east of Highway 15.

On the spot, officers from the Service the police de Laval (SPL) found a man lying on the ground, he who was shot.

His death was pronounced at the scene. His age and identity are still unknown, as a security perimeter has been erected pending the investigation of crimes against the person and forensic identification specialists from the SPL.

It’s the fifth murder to occur in Laval in 2022. An attempted murder also occurred on Wednesday, July 20, near Sainte-Dorothée.

Several Arrests for Vehicle Theft

Over the past days, the Service de police de Laval (SPL) has made nine arrests linked to vehicle theft events.

Some of those thefts occurred in parking lots of hotel establishments, in Laval, and took place mainly at night.

The suspects, including three minors and six aged between 20 and 30, are facing charges of vehicle theft, as well as possession of burglary tools.

They were targeting valuable vehicles, including Honda CRV, Acura RDX, Jeep Grand Cherokee and Wrangler, Dodge Ram and Durango, as well as Ford F-150 and F-250.

Operation

Following a concentration of reports related to vehicle theft, the SPL deployed the operation called Project Quartz, which is the result of joint work between the police and investigators to counter this problem.

Key Witness Searched in Connection With an Accident on Highway 19

Investigators from the Service de police de Laval (SPL) are looking for a key witness to a fatal accident that occurred on the evening of July 4, on Route 335, near Des Perron Avenue.

Several elements of the investigation showed that, at the time of the event, a black man, wearing an orange tank top, speaking French, and driving his vehicle southbound on Route 335, stopped on the scene to assist injured persons.

Investigators would like to contact him, as well as anyone else who witnessed the accident and the scene.

Details

Around 10:30 p.m. on July 4, the two victims, two young women aged 26, were traveling northbound on Route 335 in a Toyota vehicle.

Unfortunately, a white Cadillac SUV traveling rapidly southbound would have passed several times to end up in the opposite lane, causing a head-on collision between the two vehicles.

The vehicle’s driver was seriously injured and the death of the passenger was confirmed shortly after her arrival at the hospital. (J.B.)
