The victim was initially going there as part of an exchange of goods.

The person was hit in the lower body, and taken to a hospital. The SPL confirmed there’s no fear for the life of the victim despite serious.

The police received a first call in connection with the conflict at 6:40 p.m. because of the gunshots heard. Once there, the SPL arrested a 34-year-old suspect, who was still being held on the morning of Dec. 6.

The SPL is still looking for another suspect linked with the events.

Trading Place

A neutral meeting area was inaugurated in November 2021, at the SPL Headquarters, which is located at 2911, Chomedey Boulevard.

Available at all times and filmed 24 hours a day, the meeting area allows citizens to trade goods safely.

“The rise’s amplitude in interest rates in the space of a few months, and the inflationary context eating into the purchasing power of households are obviously the main causes,” explained by press release director of the market analysis service of the QPAREB, Charles Brant.

Brant also noted “a more cautious attitude of households and investors, who would have the financial capacity to make their purchase project possible, but prefer to wait for a stabilization of the situation, and a market conditions that will be more favorable to them”.

Registrations Up

In this context of a more significant slowdown in sales, the increase in the number of active listings continued for a sixth consecutive month across Montreal’s CMA.

Registrations reached a total of 16,269 in October, up seven per cent from the previous month. Compared to the 10,840 properties on the market at the same date last year, the increase is around 50 per cent.

In Laval, registrations increased by 45 per cent between October 2021 and 2022, going from 903 to 1,310.

However, when comparing the first 10 months of the current year with the same period in 2021, the inventory’s increase is rather 10 per cent in the whole metropolitan area, and three per cent for Laval’s territory.

The city-region stands out from the four other geographic sectors of the greater metropolitan area, which are 21 per cent behind the housing starts recorded a year earlier. Montreal, the North Shore and the South Shore, as well as Vaudreuil-Soulanges – for its portion included in the territory of Montreal’s Census Metropolitan Area (CMA) – totaled 14,711 dwellings, compared to the 18,597 registered at the end July.

Dominant Rental Market

The rental market dominates with 82 per cent of the new housing in Laval in 2022. In absolute numbers, we’re talking about 1,240 of the 1,508 units registered during the first seven months of the current fiscal year.

Meanwhile, elsewhere in Montreal’s CMA, the CMHC identified 2,074 construction sites compared to 2,449 in July 2021, representing a 15 per cent drop of the activity level.

Let’s remind that in 2021, Laval saw its housing stock grow by 2,270 new homes, built or started.

Ongoing Evaluations

Until then, the property disposal process, which began in 2018, is continuing its agreement with Public Services and Procurement Canada, Justice Canada and the CLC.

“[…] the CSC will continue to work on implementing several due diligence measures, notably by carrying out the survey and the environmental, archaeological and heritage assessments by the end of 2023.”

The CSC will also ensure the appropriate heritage considerations and obligations are transferred to the new owner, the Vieux-Pen having been designated a national historic site in 1990.

The federal agency also specifies that it will “consult with representatives of other government levels and stakeholders, including Indigenous groups, to gauge public interest” in this 150-year-old former prison facility.
