It’s now been several weeks since Saint-Martin boulevard, at the height of de l’Avenir Boulevard, up to Highway 15’s viaduct, has been without lighting during evenings and nights.

Passing almost daily in the area, Tony Sutera Sardo is starting to find the situation particularly dangerous, especially since that’s an area used by many cars and pedestrians.

The Laval resident also tried to find out more about the situation, contacting the City of Laval by several means in recent weeks. After being redirected from a department to another, by phone, Tony Sutera Sardo took advantage of social networks to send messages to the City, on Facebook and Instagram.

“weeks passed, and as it’s very dark in the evening, it can end up being favourable to accidents,” he said. “I’m wondering what’s happening, because it’s too long. If the lack of lighting had only lasted a week, I would have thought it was perhaps just a lack of equipment, or something like that. It’s a boulevard, not a secondary street. It’s not that a street wouldn’t be important, but on Saint-Martin, there are a lot of people passing by.”

When the City replied to the message, it asked Tony Sutera Sardo for his contact details. He obviously didn’t understand the link with the situation.

“I couldn’t understand why, because yes, I can give them my contact details, but just let me know how soon it will be case closed.”

By email, the City of Laval told the Courrier Laval News “it is working to rectify the situation as soon as possible, given that the defective main circuit breaker of the Saint-Martin Boulevard lighting circuit can’t be replaced without de-energization of the circuit by Hydro-Québec”. It adds that this is an important issue of prevention, since the safety of municipal teams could be “seriously compromised”.

The Ministry of Transport announced that a section of Route 335 will be closed to traffic in both directions for the weekend of Oct. 14.

The closure will take place between Dagenais (east) and Laurentides boulevards, from Friday, Oct. 14, at 10 p.m., until Monday, Oct. 17, at 4 a.m. Des Perron Avenue will also be closed during that time. It won’t be accessible from Thursday, Oct. 13 at 9 p.m.

The work is required in order to proceed with the commissioning of a new temporary intersection, located at the corner of Route 335 and des Perron Avenue. That will be used until the opening of the new Saint-Saëns Street (east) interchange, scheduled for next summer.

The temporary configuration will force the prohibition of circulation for pedestrians and cyclists. However, once opened, the new interchange will include a multipurpose track for them.

Detour

The Ministry recommends that road users travelling southbound take Laurentides Boulevard, westbound, to Highway 440, eastbound, and then return to Route 335 to avoid the section that will be closed this weekend.

Going north, drivers can instead take Dagenais Boulevard (east), westbound, and then take Laurentides Boulevard, northbound, to Route 335.

Heavy vehicles travelling north will instead be intercepted at the intersection of Route 335 and des Grands-Maîtres/Dagenais Boulevard (east). They’ll therefore have to take Grands-Maîtres and Robert-Bourassa boulevards, followed by Highway 440’s service road, westbound. That will allow them to find Laurentides Boulevard in a northerly direction, in order to then finally get route 335.

Let’s note that the work could be cancelled, or postponed without notice due to operational or weather constraints. (N.P.)

The City of Laval reminds citizens that alternating parking will be in effect on Oct. 1, according to the signs in place on most of the territory.

That approach put forward for on-street parking also provides flexibility outside of operations.

Thus, when there’s no ongoing maintenance (street sweeping, snow compacting or blowing), it’s possible to park on both sides until the next operations, relying on one of the means of information available detailed below.

To Get Informed

It’s important to not only rely on operations visible on the street to take advantage of flexibility outside operations, indicates the City in its press release.

Several means of information are made available to citizens, including the Info-Stationnement app.

Like every year, temporary signs will also be put up during evening, night or weekend operations in order to make known the restrictions in place (periods not covered by the signaling).

“[…] Last year, Laval residents took advantage of 117 days without parking restrictions, out of the 150 days covered by the signaling,” said via press release Ray Khalil, vice-president of the executive committee and responsible for public works files. (B.L.)

The Ministry of Transport announced the complete closure of a section of Route 335, in both directions tonight.

This will take place between Saint-Saëns Street (east) and Dagenais Boulevard (east) from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.

That hindrance is required in order to continue the necessary work for the construction of the Saint-Saëns interchange, as part of Highway 19’s extension project.

Road users going southbound will have access to a detour by taking des Laurentides Boulevard, westbound, as well as Dagenais Boulevard (east), eastbound, to return to Route 335.

Conversely, those going northbound can take des Grands-Maîtres Boulevard on the right, followed by Rang Saint-Elzéar on the left, and des Perron Avenue to return to their initial route.

Another possible detour is possible for people, when going through Dagenais Boulevard (east), heading west. Drivers would then need to take des Laurentides Boulevard northbound, and des Perron Avenue.

Trucks

Another detour is offered to truckers. When going southbound, truckers must take des Laurentides Boulevard, westbound, up to Highway 440 (east) in order to return to Route 335, southbound.

Northbound, trucks will be intercepted at the intersection of Route 335 and des Grands-Maîtres/Dagenais Boulevard (east). They’ll have to take des Grands-Maîtres and Robert-Bourassa boulevards, followed by the service road of Highway 440, westbound. This will allow truckers to get to des Laurentides Boulevard, northbound, and then up to Route 335. (N.P.)
