Since the beginning of the current campaign, 9,603 volunteers have helped Nez rouge to carry out 10,503 rides.

The Laval – Basses Laurentides region had 291 rides this weekend, registering 152 on Friday and 139 on Saturday.

The Quebec – Lévis region is the region that requested the most rides, with 502, including 295 on Friday. The region also had 118 rides on Thursday, for a total of 620 in three days.

The service will be available until Saturday, Dec. 31, from 8 p.m. to 3 a.m.

It’s now been 27 years for the organization Opération Nez rouge Laval – Basses Laurentides, which exists since 1986.

Opération Nez rouge is a non-profit organization, whose goal is to educate the population to adopt better behaviors, i.e. to avoid driving while impaired.

The exo2 Saint-Jérôme line, which passes through de la Concorde, Vimont and Sainte-Rose stations, will notably work according to the weekend schedule. This will result in a significant reduction in departures offered.

Five fatal collisions were recorded on Quebec’s roads and recreational tourism network between Sept. 2–5. Five people died, four of them on the road.

Those deaths occurred despite numerous police operations across the country. SQ police officers offered an increased presence during this long weekend, especially when there was more traffic.

Last year, six people died in five fatal collisions on the road during this same period.

The goal of the work is to ensure “the functionality of that road infrastructure, and the ride comfort of its users, until the completion of the major bridge reconstruction project”, explains the press release.

They’ll result in the complete closure of one direction on the bridge, from Friday, August 26 at 11 p.m. to Monday, August 29 at 4:30 a.m.

Traffic will thus be in the opposite direction, on the opposite carriageway, and the permitted speed limit will be reduced to 50 km/h in the construction zone.

There will be a lane open to northbound traffic, while two lanes will be open to southbound traffic.
