Eliminated 6-4, 7-5 in the first round of the National Bank Open against Grigor Dimitrov, Alexis Galarneau came to his postgame press conference pretty happy.
It however made a lot of sense, since the 23-year-old athlete from Laval was playing a first Masters 1000 match, in Montreal.
“I’m extremely proud,” Galarneau said. “I’m also proud of my team and my family, especially for making it this far. It’s been an amazing day for us.”
Experience
Galarneau said he gained a lot of experience yesterday. For him, playing against a player like Dimitrov is a great occasion to learn, no matter if you win or lose.
“For me, it’s a nice opportunity to learn from Dimitrov’s game,” explained Laval’s athlete. “His experience made the difference, and he played the right points at the right times.”
