More than $30 million to counter sewer backups in Saint-François

On Monday, July 11, the two levels of federal and provincial government announced a joint investment of more than $24 million for a new storm sewer network in the Monty sector, east of Laval.

The Courrier Laval had already announced these investments earlier this winter.

Ville de Laval will also invest in this project, which aims to control recurring sewer backups in the area of Monty and Cyrano streets, located in the Saint-François district.

The funding will be used in particular to separate the sewer networks by adding new storm pipes and to put in place new measures for the treatment of the quality of rainwater.

This announcement came from Annie Koutrakis Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Transport and Member of Parliament for Vimy, Christopher Skeete, Minister responsible for the Laval region and Member of Parliament for Sainte-Rose, on behalf of Andrée Laforest, Minister of Municipal Affairs.

“Our government is proud to contribute to this project, which will help control sewer backups and reduce wastewater overflows into the Rivière des Prairies,” said Annie Koutrakis in a press release. By investing in efficient wastewater treatment infrastructure, we are ensuring that Canadians have access to greener, cleaner, healthier and safer living environments.”

The governments of Canada and Quebec are each investing $12,264,400 in the project, while Ville de Laval is contributing $6,132,200.

“This announcement is an example of the importance of the dialogue initiated on sharing the economic burden related to the adaptation needs of our infrastructures due to climate change, declared Stéphane Boyer, Mayor of Laval, in the same communication to the media. We believe that cooperation is the key to climate resilience! On the ground, we will be able to start large-scale works for the implementation of sustainable and adapted solutions which will, in the long term, offer a better quality of life to the citizens who reside in this sector while contributing to the protection of the environment. ‘environment.” (C.P./IJL)
